The Basic Facts –

Employers Liability covers you if you are sued by an employee for “Bodily Injury, Illness or Disease” which happens while they are employed by you and when an accident takes place at work. Insurers definition of an employee is any person employed by you under a contract or an apprenticeship.

Public Liability covers you against being sued by anyone other than an employee for bodily injury or loss or damage to property caused by you or your business.

Contractors All Risks Insurance (also known as Contract Works Insurance) is insurance for builders or tradesmen working on site. This insurance can cover damage to property as a result of something going wrong or an accident on site. It can also cover your own Plant, Hired in Plant and Tools belonging to your employees. The main part of this insurance is the contract works section which gives cover for the property being worked on (e.g. new house). The policy does exclude any existing property on the site (e.g. the existing structure if building an extension). Damage caused by you to the existing property would be covered by your Public Liability.
